Decorating Your Home for Christmas

With only weeks to go until the big day now is as good a time as any to think about how this festive period can be the best yet! Christmas is usually when we all spend most time at home, entertaining, watching Only Fools and Horses on repeat and recharging in time for the new year. We deserve to make our homes feel comfy and at their best, so here are some of our ideas for how to do that.

1. Give High Traffic Areas a Lick of Paint

You don’t want the most memorable takeaway for your festive visitors to be the tired paint job on your hallway or landing, so why not spend a weekend freshening things up. Our paint of choice is definitely Dulux Diamond Matt, which we can tint with any colour, whether you’re into pale minimalist shades or rich jewel tones. We especially love this as it has stain repellent technology, is wipeable and has impressive coverage too, perfect for whether you intend on daily parties with pals or a houseful of kids causing havoc.

2. Maintain a Colour scheme

There will probably be numerous colour schemes that already exist in your home, so to keep things looking super classy match your Christmas decorations to your current décor. Try to stick to two or three complimentary colours to have the biggest impact and mix the textures to really make your rooms look high end. Mirrored, glittery or gloss decorations will really reflect the light and make things look super magical, whereas the matt look is super contemporary.

3. Upcycle Decorations and Furniture

Rushing out to spend hundreds on new decorations, tableware or furniture is completely unnecessary in the age of Pinterest and Google. Have a search online to inspire your very own home décor improvement projects. If you have any paint left from our first recommendation, why not give old items a new lease of life by tying them into this year’s Christmas theme. If you have children in your life this can be a great fun activity to involve the whole family in.

4. Consider modern alternatives to a Christmas Tree

Lots of people choose not to go down the traditional tree route each Christmas, especially if they have numerous animals or children, or perhaps are limited on space. Some options we like are LED trees, which you can still hang the odd decoration from, scandi-style wood trees which can be hung on the wall and still have presents stacked below it, or even why not try a contemporary tree wall sticker.

If you’re interested in generally updating your home, at a less festive time of year, we have a post on that too.
